Splatter Paint Art

My nieces and nephew spent the night with us recently and we had so much fun together! The weather has been gorgeous in south Alabama so I wanted to find a  fun outdoor activity for them.  {instead of yard clean-up like my husband suggested!} I dug through my craft stash and found some blank art canvases.  That’s when the light bulb went off…. Splatter painting!!

I gathered any leftover paint that I could find and set-up an art station in the yard.  We poured the paint into a small plastic cup and added a few drops of water to thin it out for better splattering.  There were no rules.  Everyone’s art would be unique and their own.

It was interesting to see how each one approached their painting.

J: the oldest –  Ms. 13 year old {and a little bit of a perfectionist 🙂 } studied the colors first then picked out ones that would compliment her bedroom.   She carefully and meticulously tried to plan out her patterns and textures.  She would change positions and eye the canvas from different directions and angels.  The end result was a beautiful work of art with some splashes of glitz and glam…just like her!

 

E: the middle child and only boy.  He was timid at first and wanted to know “how do I do this?”  My advice…”there is no right or wrong; just have fun and make a mess!”  Once he started seeing the paint fly then hear it splat onto the canvas, he was hooked!  He liked how the paint would drip and slide down.  His painting had more texture because he liked to use a lot of paint and kept some of the paint thick.  He thought it was “cool”.  Yes, very cool indeed!

Little L:  She’s small but mighty!  She jumped right in and knew just what to do!  She enjoyed the messiness most of all!  The sweet thing wanted to make a painting for everyone but herself.  Love that heart of hers!

It was fun to watch them enjoy the freedom to create and make a mess.  I loved seeing how they approached this project with different personalities and how those differences are reflected in their art.
