Hello Everyone!

I wanted to take a moment to share some exciting news….
I’m a finalist in The Rust-Oleum Make Over Challenge!

Rust-Oleum has created an online community called “Creator’s Studio by Rust-Oleum“.  If you aren’t connected, I encourage you to do so!  It’s a great place to connect with people that are passionate about DIY!  They encourage you to engage, share, collaborate AND enter challenges for some amazing prizes!  Which brings me to the challenge of which I am a finalist!

THE PRIZES:
The winners will be offered cash gift cards to a home improvement center of their choice to help them get started on their make-over!

  • 1st Place: $1,000 gift card AND $500 of Rust-Oleum products PLUS a Master Creator badge in the Creator’s Studio community.
  • 2nd Place: $250 gift card.
  • 3rd Place: $100 gift card.

WOW AND WOW!

I ask that you create a login-in and begin participating to earn “Creator Coins”.  You can earn coins simply by logging-in regularly, answering a poll or supporting an idea. Like MY ENTRY perhaps?! hint hint! 🙂

THE CHALLENGE was to submit a room or space in your home that is in desperate need of a makeover.  The submission needed to include:
* Compelling reason for / personal impact of make-over
* A “before” photo
* A list of Rust-Oleum Products that could be used in the make-over

I submitted our family room.  At first glance, it doesn’t look so bad but upon closer inspection, the floors need a lot of work. They are stained, scratched and have an orange tint. Also, it’s a nice and spacious area but the most important features get lost.  This space has wonderful natural light, original hardwood flooring, a beautiful chandelier, high ceilings and thick crown molding as well as an impressive fireplace.  We entertain quite often and this room does not display our style or personality or live up to its full potential.

The room faces the front of our house so window treatments are needed for privacy. Cornice boards are on my to-do list and I’d like bamboo roman shades and curtain panels as well.

The room contains a beautiful iron mantel and marble hearth fireplace that must be the focal point! I’d like to build an over mantel that stretches to the ceiling for a classy but dramatic look.

uhmmm yeah…the horsey needs to go!

THE END RESULT:
I envision this room becoming a “modern parlor” for our family and guests.  A room that provides the perfect atmosphere for reading a book or scanning the internet to enjoying a drink or playing a game of cards with friends.  I’m confident that we can mold this lonely room into a vibrant gathering place that is comfortable yet classic by enhancing its unique character.

THE SUPPORT:
Please support my idea… if you so choose.  There are 6 days left!  If nothing else, I hope you decide to join the Rust-Oleum Creator’s Studio Community and get inspired!
