DIY Kitchen Table Face-Lift

Let me introduce you to our dining room table.  She’s a nice looking table with lovely legs and some curves but she doesn’t feel pretty.  She has some blemishes and her coloring has lost its glow so she confided in me that she was ready for a face-lift.  We talked about the pros and cons of such a procedure and I even helped her look online at some before and afters.

She took a look at Jamison’s blog at Rogue Engineer  and found a look that she loved here!

With a plan in place she felt ready to move forward.  I assured her that the process would be painless and that she would look brand new when we were done with her.

Here’s goes the dirty work.  Her legs and apron have a nice shape and are strong so we decided to make those features more noticeable.  We used primer and Sherwin Williams Eider White 

One coat down, two to go.

Now for the real transformation!  To make the table top, we used the plans from Rogue Engineer and adjusted the measurements to fit our base.  {Our wood has an angry face because it knows what’s coming!  #thegrinch LOL!}

After all of our cuts are made, we assembled using our Kreg Jig 

I love it already!  Now for some color on her cheeks…so to speak.

We used Minwax Special Walnut. The wood had too much of a “new” look to it so I drug out a chain and give it a few good wacks.  My husband tried to talk me out of it but he finally came over to the dark side! 🙂  The marks aren’t very noticeable but the banging made me feel better!

Here we are assembling the table.  This step was easy peasy since we are just reattaching the original frame.  {My sweet husband, always my biggest helper!}

The legs are attached!

And here she is!  Wow! and Wow again!  

Isn’t she beautiful!  The legs do not go unnoticed any longer and I love how the colors gently flow into each other throughout the room now.

I have no idea why I didn’t get our chandelier in the picture but you should see it!  It’s gorgeous and no longer gets lost in the room!  {I’ll try to add a pic soon}

I am amazed at how a little bit of paint and wood can totally change the look and feel of a space.  {Confession: Sometimes I walk by and this room catches my eye and I just stop and stare….and smile}

Our dining table is no longer an ugly duckling – She has certainly turned into a beautiful swan!  I’d say her face-lift was a success!

Now what to do about seating???  I’ve already made a matching bench {still need to stain/paint} but want to recover those wicker chairs you see in the background.  Feel free to share any ideas you may have.
